Sisters to Sisters Inc: Promotional & Event Videos - Sample:-
· Role: Writer, Director & Editor
In rural Ethiopia, young girls miss school during their menstruation because they lack the funds to purchase sanitary pads. This video features interviews with different individuals discussing the gravity of this issue, aiming to increase awareness and encourage those with financial resources to support these young women.
The project faced the challenge of crafting a compelling message and determining the delivery method to inspire financial support. To artistically convey the show's content, we carefully selected popular elements and meticulously scripted it to resemble a television interview. Extensive pre-production preparation ensured a smooth main shoot. The post-production process involved straightforward editing techniques, resulting in a seamless final product.
Short Film: The Writer
"The Writer" is a film centered on Daniel, a struggling writer facing writer's block. Determined to craft his own narrative, he embarks on a journey to pen his story. However, as the tale unfolds, the harsh realities within it begin to haunt him, ultimately leading to his inability to complete the story. The film explores themes of creative struggle, the challenges faced by newcomers, and the atmospheric backdrop of Winnipeg, Canada, which adds to the film's significance and ambiance.
In this project, I held multiple roles as the Writer, Producer, Director, and Editor. The production process involved a narrative journey divided into three parts: First, the writer's quest to find a compelling story about life in Winnipeg, which triggers memories of the city's weather and inspires him to delve into the four seasons. This journey leads to his first arrival in Canada and an exploration of the experiences of newcomers, ultimately prompting him to halt his writing and adopt the title "The Writer." This project was a reflection of my personal struggle to craft a screenplay.
The production faced challenges due to budget constraints, necessitating the use of non-professional actors and crew members, which placed a significant burden on me. Despite these challenges, the project yielded fantastic results, and I successfully submitted it to several film festivals.
Short Documentary in Pic:
"27+1 Years in 75 Seconds"
· Role: Videographer, Producer, Director & Editor
Human Book (9 episodes) interview)
This short documentary project originated from a school assignment that challenged the creators to craft a concise documentary using only still images and music, exploring the theme of "REVOLUTION." The challenge was to evoke a range of emotions and convey meaning without explicitly depicting the subject matter, allowing for interpretations through metaphor and representation within a 75-second timeframe.
My project drew inspiration from Ethiopia's 27-year-long government rule and the subsequent year of transition triggered by the defection of government insiders. This photo-based documentary fulfilled a long-held aspiration and effectively condensed the complex narrative into a brief, emotionally resonant piece.
Feedback from industry professionals highlighted the skilled use of saturation to symbolize change and the seamless transitions that led the audience through a gamut of emotions. Furthermore, the project sparked interest in the evolving perception of the new prime minister and encouraged an increased understanding of the ongoing political situation in Ethiopia among viewers.

Wedding Ceremony Videos: Sample:-
The writer(Daniel), who is blocked from writing, has decided to write his own story, but the realities in the story trigger his nightmare, and he fails to finish the story.
These videos contributed to International Women's Day and Charity Programs፡ The video successfully reached its intended audience and fulfilled its intended objectives.
The client wanted a cinematic touch for their wedding video. After securing a videographer, they looked for a skilled cinema film editor, eventually reaching out to me. I delivered exceptional results.
In addition to the fundamental editing techniques, I incorporated numerous transitions and special effects to enhance the video. The choice of music, visual aesthetics, and overall quality met their expectations, leaving them thoroughly satisfied.

About Me
I am a passionate filmmaker with a Bachelor's degree in Filmmaking from the University of Winnipeg. I specialize in every aspect of the filmmaking process, from concept development and scriptwriting to directing, editing, and production. My journey in the world of cinema has been marked by dedication, creativity, and a continuous drive to learn and grow.
Greetings, I'm Cheramlack W. Adem, and I'd like to share my journey in the world of filmmaking. I hail from Ethiopia, where my childhood dreams of pursuing a career in film were thwarted due to the absence of higher education in film studies and my family's reservations about the art profession. Consequently, I found myself studying economics, a path not of my choosing. However, my passion for filmmaking never waned, and I took the initiative to gain knowledge by enrolling in short-term film training programs and connecting with fellow aspiring filmmakers.
During this time, I had the privilege of participating as a co-producer and supporting actor in a local movie. Nevertheless, the limited experience and education of both the filmmakers and the training institutes left me yearning for more profound knowledge to realize my dream. It was evident that I needed to venture abroad to further my studies, and in 2017, I seized the opportunity to come to Canada with the sponsorship of my elder brother.
Upon settling in Canada, I embarked on my filmmaking journey at the University of Winnipeg in 2019. Over the course of three years, I eagerly pursued my undergraduate studies in filmmaking, actively engaging in various school projects and video productions alongside my peers. Through these experiences, I honed my skills in directing, screenwriting, and editing, nurturing my aspiration to become a professional filmmaker.
My journey didn't stop at academia. I currently wear multiple hats, working as a director, scriptwriter, and editor for YouTube channels, crafting short films and diverse video content. My portfolio extends to collaborations with the Ethiopian Community and Sisters to Sisters Inc., where I serve as a freelance editor. I've even contributed my editing expertise to Ethiopian wedding ceremony videos.
Driven by my passion for producing high-quality films, my immediate goal is to continue enhancing my knowledge and experience through education and training, aiming to become a proficient film editor. My proficiency centers on Adobe Premiere Pro, where I've cultivated expertise in film grammar, continuity, asset organization, dialogue, and montage theory within a non-linear editing system. I've also delved into digital effects, color correction, picture locking, and finishing techniques using DaVinci Resolve Studio and Adobe After Effects.
Looking ahead, I envision a career as a professional filmmaker while nurturing aspirations of establishing my own production company in Ethiopia, offering comprehensive production services. As I reflect on my journey and personal inclinations, I find a strong affinity for the post-production realm, particularly in the art of editing. My commitment to this craft is unwavering, and I am eager to embark on the next exciting chapter of my filmmaking odyssey.
